The Collection of Oriental and Asian Arms and Armor in Znojmo Museum
-
The Znojmo collection of Oriental, mostly Asian weapons is among the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Its core is formed by the collection from the Balkan part of the former Ottoman Empire and also by the Persian collection, which contains several artifacts that you would not find in any other collection in this country. The other parts of Asia are represented at least by several examples that allow for the comparison of the varying nature of weapons that used to be common in Africa, India, China, Indonesia and Japan. The collection, which was accessible to the public at the Znojmo castle already during the era of the pre-war first republic, has been on display in the former chapter house of the Monastery of Minorites since July 1986. The last reconstruction and modernization of the exhibition took place in years 2009–2010.
